Nursery

Nursery Newsletter

This term our topic is ‘Once Upon a Holiday’.  The children have already helped to plan and make resources for our beach role-play area.  We will be learning about how to stay safe and well  at nursery, and at home during school holidays, for example staying with adults, applying sun cream and drinking lots of water as the weather gets warmer.  We will be making a range of healthy snacks starting with fruit kebabs.

As part of understanding the world we will draw, paint pictures and make models of the different things you would find at the beach and under the sea, as well as   encouraging the children to look at lots of information books to find out interesting facts about each one.  Please encourage children to talk about holidays you have taken, and places you have visited during school holidays.   We would love to share a holiday photograph with them if you would like to send one into nursery.  Any photographs will be returned.

We are going to plan a teddy bears picnic with the children.  We will encourage the children to write an invitation to their favourite teddy bear (or small soft toy) inviting them to nursery to enjoy the picnic with them, date to follow.

As part of our letters and sounds work we will continue to learn the Jolly Phonics rhymes and actions that represent each different letter sound, as well as playing lots of fun letters, sounds and listening games to enable all of the children to listen to environmental sounds both indoors and outdoors.

The older children have started to take a book home, and these will be changed each Friday. Please make sure that the children have their reading folders in nursery school each day, so we read with them and can practise their phonics and their first word lists.

In Personal Social and Emotional Development we will be talking about how we ‘care’ for each other and we will link this to out RE topic ‘Thinking of Others’ and to our school values.

On Friday 7th July we will be having stay and play session with all children from 10:45am to 11:45am.  We hope as many parents/guardians as possible can stay and enjoy the fun.  This term our focus will be on physical activities.   Our activities for the day will based upon a mini sports day and will include an egg and spoon, running and obstacle race.  As part of Arts week (week 4) the children will be learning about Italy through studying art works, painting, creating out own clay models and through cooking.

Finally for the children who are transferring to reception class in September 2017 there will be an opportunity to visit their new teacher Mrs Russ and their new classroom on Tuesday 4th July.   The children who will continue in the nursery from September will be able to meet some of their new class friends in the nursery on the same day.
